My works, described as Contemporary Classicism, combine the balance of my classical art studies for its underlying formal composition with a contemporary appreciation of intensified color, surprise, and even whimsy.  I begin a work with direct observation especially intrigued by the variety of patterns in nature and how various surfaces respond to light, be it the human figure, still life or a landscape. Some objects appear transformed by water, other surfaces become translucent, and color is intensified due to multiple layers of transparent color glazes.  The result is an inherent yet restrained energy.  All combine into a careful equilibrium and coherent whole.

My goal is simple but not quickly attained: to capture and communicate the wonder and pleasure that I initially felt and create images that bring to the viewer an experience of quiet astonishment by making something familiar become newly seen and appreciated.
